5 minutes away: Off the beaten path
You don’t have to go far to get a taste of local flavor; local back roads are the perfect place to start. Swing over to nearby San Antonio and get to know all the neighborhood hot spots. Order up a plate of authentic fish tacos, pork tamales or homemade chili at Pancho’s Villa. Need a quick pick-me-up? Grab a tasty hot-pressed Cuban sandwich at the Jiffy Mart or pop over for a latte at the corner organic coffee shop.
If small-town charm and hospitality are your thing, make sure to check out Historic Downtown Dade City, where classic architecture provides the backdrop for antique and vintage shops, clothing and jewelry boutiques, salons, spas, restaurants and cafés. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Steph’s Southern Soul Restaurant. Soak up the eclectic charm while snacking on a gluten free foods or try their delicious fried gator bites at Kafé Kokopelli. Or enjoy free events including parades, music festivals, car shows and more on the square downtown. When you need to stock up on groceries and other essentials, head over to Dade City’s Publix, or Winn-Dixie. Or drive a few minutes south to Zephyrhills’ Super Walmart — it’s right by the Zephyrhills Cinema 10 movie theater and Pin Chasers 32-lane bowling alley.
15-20 minutes: Explore New Tampa
Your one-stop spot for retail, dining and nightlife, the Shops at Wiregrass are where you’ll find department stores, a two-story Barnes & Noble, and a variety of the most popular shops — everything from Hollister to Coach to GNC. Grab a quick treat (frozen yogurt, soft pretzel or caramel latte, anyone?). Or linger and enjoy one of many local sit-down restaurants including Moe’s Southwest Grill, Yamato Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar, Cantina Laredo, Pinchers Crab Shack, Grillsmith, Panera Bread and Red Robin. 30-45 minutes: Bright lights, big city
Ready for something a little more fast paced? In less than an hour you’ll have the entire city of Tampa at your fingertips. That means internships, mentorships and professional opportunities in one of the country’s largest metropolitan areas. Watch the sun set over Tampa Bay. Visit Busch Gardens theme park. Enjoy historic Ybor City’s exotic late-night dining and entertainment. Catch major Broadway productions and operatic masterpieces at the Straz Center. Browse high-end brands like Gucci, Burberry and Kate Spade at the International Plaza mall. Or try a hole-in-the wall Cuban, Ethiopian, Korean or Vietnamese eatery. Checks can be cashed at the Student Financial Support Center, located on campus in Saint Edward Hall. With a valid ID students can cash personal checks up to $150 per week and payroll checks from Saint Leo up to $300 per week.

Saint Leo University has a nursing staff on campus Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m and also a Physician available Wednesdays 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. Appointments are preferred to see the doctor, but are not required at the campus Health Center in de Chantal Hall. The Health Center can provide assistance with doctor appointments, prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and residence hall visits for ill students. If a student is sick or injured and it is after hours, they should contact their RA, Hall Directors or Campus Safety. The closest hospital is Florida Hospital Dade City, just ten minutes from campus.
