The Perks of Lion Life

2014_11_12 Campus-056

  • A captivating campus. Rolling hills, breathtaking views of Lake Jovita and sun-dappled Spanish Mission architecture.
  • Better grades. Research shows that students who live on campus achieve higher academic performance.
  • Approachable neighbors. Run out of printer paper? Need a second opinion on your date night outfit? Your friend down the hall can help with both!
  • 24/7 support. Whatever you need, your residence hall assistants will always have your back — day or night.
  • Never a dull moment. Play foosball or Madden in the Lion’s Den. Hit the gym. Take in a choral performance. Cheer for the home team at a lacrosse match. Sign up for that $5.00 trip to Busch Gardens. Good times are always within reach!

Here … There … Anywhere!

Adventure in your own backyard — and beyond.
Who says you can’t have it all?

Saint Leo truly offers the best of all worlds: a friendly, small-town vibe that’s just a short ride away from the cosmopolitan allure of big-city culture and entertainment. Our peaceful campus is surrounded by rolling green hills and clear-water lakes. We’re also less than an hour from vibrant downtown Tampa, with easy access to all of the entertainment, shopping and dining of Florida’s most famous vacation destinations. Settle in and make yourself at home. When you’re ready to explore, there’s plenty of awesome stuff to see and do:

5 minutes away: Off the beaten path

You don’t have to go far to get a taste of local flavor; local back roads are the perfect place to start. Swing over to nearby San Antonio and get to know all the neighborhood hot spots. Order up a plate of authentic fish tacos, pork tamales or homemade chili at Pancho’s Villa. Head next door to LOCAL Public House and Provisions for locally sourced fare, craft beer and wine in a beautifully restored 100-year-old general store. Need a quick pick-me-up? Grab a tasty hot-pressed Cuban sandwich at the Jiffy Mart or pop over for a latte at the corner coffee shop.

If small-town charm and hospitality are your thing, make sure to check out Historic Downtown Dade City, where classic architecture provides the backdrop for antique and vintage shops, clothing and jewelry boutiques, salons, spas, restaurants and cafés. Catch a lazy Sunday lunch at Rebecca’s at City Market. Soak up the kooky ambience while snacking on fried gator bites at eclectic Kafé Kokopelli. Or enjoy free events including parades, music festivals, car shows and more on the square downtown. When you need to stock up on groceries and other essentials, head over to Dade City’s Publix, Winn-Dixie or Sweetbay supermarkets. Or drive a few minutes south to Zephyrhills’ Super Walmart — it’s right by the Zephyrhills Cinema 10 movie theater and Pin Chasers 32-lane bowling alley.

15-20 minutes: Explore New Tampa

Your one-stop spot for retail, dining and nightlife, the Shops at Wiregrass are where you’ll find department stores, a two-story Barnes & Noble, and a variety of the most popular shops — everything from Hollister to Coach to GNC. Grab a quick treat (frozen yogurt, soft pretzel or caramel latte, anyone?). Or linger and enjoy one of many local sit-down restaurants including Moe’s Southwest Grill, Yamato Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar, Cantina Laredo, Pinchers Crab Shack, Grillsmith, Panera Bread and Red Robin. Night owls can enjoy late night food and beverage offerings at Primebar and The Brass Tap. Looking for something a little more low-key? The Applebee’s on the way to Wesley Chapel does half-off apps — a popular favorite of Saint Leo’s late-night crowd. More megastore shopping awaits at the Grove at Wesley Chapel. This open-air mall is also home to the Cobb Grove 16 Theatres where you can catch the hottest Hollywood blockbusters. Serious shoppers will enjoy Tampa Premium Outlets, the area’s newest shopping destination. Featuring more than 100 of the hottest brands in retail, the Outlets are guaranteed to deliver an exceptional shopping experience. Most importantly, all of these destinations are just one or two exits south of Saint Leo!

30-45 minutes: Bright lights, big city

Ready for something a little more fast paced? In less than an hour you’ll have the entire city of Tampa at your fingertips. That means internships, mentorships and professional opportunities in one of the country’s largest metropolitan areas. Watch the sun set over Tampa Bay. Visit Busch Gardens theme park. Enjoy historic Ybor City’s exotic late-night dining and entertainment. Catch major Broadway productions and operatic masterpieces at the Straz Center. Browse high-end brands like Gucci, Burberry and Kate Spade at the International Plaza mall. Or try a hole-in-the wall Cuban, Ethiopian, Korean or Vietnamese eatery. Don’t forget to root for Tampa Bay’s favorite sports teams — the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning and Rays!

1 hour+: World-famous fun

It’s yours for the taking: the magic of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the wonder of Walt Disney World, the excitement of SeaWorld and the thrills of Universal Studios! Catch performances like Wicked and Sweeney Todd at the Lakeland Center. Treat yourself to dinner and a movie at CityWalk. Spend the day jet skiing, parasailing or water biking at sunny Clearwater or St. Pete Beach. Camp out under the stars. This is the Florida you’ve been dreaming about.
